Game 3: Union College (1-0-1)* vs. Western Michigan University (2-0-1)*
*Overall Non-Conference Record
After skating to a 2-2 tie last night at Messa Rink, the
Dutchmen face off against the WMU Broncos for the second of a two game set. The non-conference matchup
features the #11 and #12 ranked teams in the country (Union and WMU, respectively).
Union Keys To The Game:
- Special Teams: After going 0-4 last night on the powerplay, Union looks to regain its 2010-2011 form that featured one of the nation's best special teams units.
- Pressure: Union looked far more poised, conditioned, and confident than the Broncos in the first period last night--a byproduct of which saw the Dutchmen post 12 shots to WMU's 4. But coach Andy Murray's Broncos came out strong in the second and third and, while the level of effort was there for the Dutchmen, the bounces were not. Union should be able to feed off of another excitable home crowd at Messa Rink while trying to sustain a similar level of defensive pressure.
