Union draws Boston College in first round

by Ryan Fay

Union will face off against  Boston College in the opening round of the NCAA tournament's East Regional next Saturday at 9 pm in Providence, Rhode Island.

The game will be televised live in high definition on ESPNU. It will also be streamed live on the WatchESPN platform.

The Dutchmen, fresh off capturing their second consecutive Whitelaw Cup, earned a third seed. Boston Hockey, which competes out of Hockey East, was awarded a second seed as an at-large team.

Union will be making its seventh tournament appearence in school history while Boston College will be making its 32nd. The Eagles have won five national championships, the most recent being last year.

Boston College (22-11-4, 15-9-3 Hockey East) and Union (21-12-5, 10-8-4 ECAC Hockey) have never met before.

With a win, Union would take on the winner of top-seeded Quinnipiac and fourth-seeded Canisius on Sunday at 6:30 pm. The winner of that game would then advance to the Frozen Four in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on April 11 & 13.

I hope to have much more on the game as the week progresses.
