Stevens nominated for Mike Richter Award

Let’s Play Hockey and the Herb Brooks Foundation announced Friday that Union goaltender Colin Stevens is one of 18 nominees for the inaugural Mike Richter Award, which annually honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA men’s hockey.

The junior from Niskayuna has helped propel third-ranked Union to its third Cleary Cup in the past four seasons. Stevens is 19-4-2 with a 2.10 goals against average, a .922 save percentage and four shutouts in 27 games this season.

Stevens, 20, is one of two ECAC Hockey goaltenders nominated for the award. The other is Cornell senior Andy Iles.

The remaining nominees are Denver's Sam Brittain, Minnesota Duluth's Aaron Crandall, Boston College's Thatcher Demko, St. Cloud State's Ryan Faragher, Providence's Jon Gillies, UMass-Lowell's Connor Hellebuyck, Michigan State's Jake Hildebrand, Ferris State's CJ Motte, Michigan's Zach Nagelvoort, Maine's Martin Oullette, Wisconsin's Joel Rumpel, Mercyhurst's Jimmy Sarjeant, Notre Dame's Steve Summerhays, Air Force's Jason Torf, Minnesota's Adam Wilcox and Northeastern's Clay Witt.

The inaugural award will be presented at the Frozen Four April 10-12 in Philadelphia.
