With a three-week break for the holidays on tap, Union had a chance to close out the first half of its schedule on a high note Saturday at Yale.
The Dutchmen did just that, skating to a 3-1 ECAC Hockey win over the Bulldogs at Ingalls Rink. The victory extended Union's winning streak in conference play to three games.
Daniel Ciampini scored a pair of goals while Alex Sakellaropoulos made 28 saves in place of Colin Stevens, who didn't dress for the game after getting banged up in Friday's 7-1 rout at Brown.
The game remained scoreless until 18:37 of the second period. After Max Novak stripped a Yale player of the puck at the blue line, he fed Ciampini, who rifled home a wrister from the slot to put the Dutchmen on the board. Ciampini struck again 39 seconds later after he deflected in a shot from Ryan Scarfo for his team-best ninth goal of the season.
The Dutchmen kept the momentum going to begin the third as Matt Wilkins extended Union's lead to 3-0 at 0:57. Mike Vecchione extended his point streak to six games with an assist on the play.
Alex Lyon made 27 saves for Yale (6-3-2 overall, 4-3-1 ECACH), which was outshot 30-29.
Union (9-6-1, 3-4-1) resumes action Dec. 27-28 when they travel to Bridgeport, Conn. for the inaugural Frozen Holiday Classic.
