Former Union defenseman Charlie Vasaturo joined the ranks of professional hockey earlier this week by signing a one-year deal with the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings.

"I'm extremely excited for the opportunity to play for the organization," Vasaturo said. "[I'm] looking forward to starting everything up."

Vasaturo served as the Dutchmen's team captain last season and appeared in all 39 of their games. He collected five points on a goal and four assists.

A regular on Union's 2014 national championship team, Vasaturo finished his Dutchmen career with three goals and 13 assists in 113 contests.

“Charlie comes from a winning environment,” Kalamazoo head coach Nick Bootland said. “He knows how to lead. He was a captain, a national champion, and he consistently shut down top players on a nightly basis.”

Vasaturo is the fifth member of Union's 2015 senior class to ink a pro deal this offseason. The other four are forward Daniel Ciampini (Rockford/AHL), goaltender Colin Stevens (Florida/NHL), forward Max Novak (Albany/AHL), and forward Sam Coatta (Mississippi/SPHL).
