Chase Polacek scored 1:58 into overtime to give RPI the win. RPI's Brutlag tied the game up for the Engineers on a power-play goal with a little more than 2 minutes remaining in regulation.
What a disappointing loss, especially since it was Homecoming! The Dutchmen had the win right in their hands, but another bad penalty cost them. This has been a recurring theme, and I for one am sick of it, and so is Coach Leaman. He completely understands that this is a huge problem, and said that he will start sitting guys for these actions. With ECAC play coming up next weekend the team needs to get their heads on straight if they want to compete, and they'll have to do it pretty quick.
I feel terribly for Stephane Boileau. He played such a great game up until his costly penalty in the third. He was great on faceoffs, scored a goal on a hard-nosed play to tie the game, and then set up Union's go-ahead goal in the second. I mean if Brutlag didn't score the game-tying goal we wouldn't be talking about this. Instead, we would be saying how great Boileau is. He truly is a great player, and one of my favorites to watch. He is a gritty player who puts everything he has into every shift.
Too bad their isn't a game tonight to erase this memory. Hopefully this will motivate the team and give them that extra step next week when ECAC play opens up.
