For Shayne, I'm sure that the only thing cooler than being invited to the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp is seeing two articles about him in a row on the glorious UHB. As long as he keeps making Union Hockey headlines, we'll keep writing! Ghost is one of forty-six players, one of two ECAC defenseman, invited to take part in USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp this August in Lake Placid, N.Y. The players invited will all be battling for a spot on the USA Hockey National Junior team, which will be playing in the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2012 - Jan. 5, 2013, in Ufa, Russia. The evaluation camp will take place at Lake Placid's Olympic Center from Aug. 4 - 11. The camp will hold practices, intrasquad scrimmages, and international games against Sweden and Finland. For anyone invited, this is a huge honor. Once again, good luck to Shayne!
cornell defenseman J Ryan also invited.
ReplyDeleteThank you, above Anonymous. I am glad that Gostisbehere is invited because better and well-recognized players in the ECAC help the Conference as a whole. However, Cornell's Joakim Ryan was invited to the camp. Ryan is a defenseman for Cornell. Your statement that "[Gostisbehere] is...the only ECAC defenseman, invited to take part" is incorrect. The ECAC is well-represented at the camp with future and current players: three from Harvard with Blackwell, Hart, and Vesey; two from Cornell with Bardreau and Ryan; and one from Union with Gostisbehere.
ReplyDeleteYou're right! I must have misread that. No slight to Cornell intended.
DeleteI did not think there was. I was just clarifying. It seems that Cornell, Harvard, and Union this season will be poised to continue the work that Cornell and Union began last year of reasserting the national legitimacy and relevance of the ECAC. Any national recognition of ECAC players helps elevate the stature of the league. Best of luck to Gostisbehere during the the evaluation camp and the NHL Draft. I am pulling for the Cornell draft-eligible players. I am pulling for Bardreau in particular because I love to see players from my home region of Upstate New York do well. We can keep the slights and pseudo-slights between Cornell and Union limited to banter before Cornell-Union games.
DeleteAgreed. Seeing signs like "EZ-AC" at the regionals were annoying. Deal!
