Ronan named men's hockey volunteer assistant

by Ryan Fay

John Ronan, who played collegiately at the University of Maine from 2001-2005, has joined the men's hockey staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

He replaces Joel Beal, who was hired as an assistant coach at Sacred Heart earlier this summer.

"We're very excited to have John Ronan join our staff," Union head coach Rick Bennett said in a release. "John had a great career at Maine, where he was a four-time NCAA Tournament participant and two-time NCAA finalist. He'll bring a lot of passion and experience to the position. We're happy to welcome John and his family."

Ronan, a Level III certified coach with USA Hockey, doubled as a player/assistant coach with the Huntsville Havoc of the Southern Professional Hockey League during the 2008-09 season. Ronan also has worked as a camp instructor at the University of Maine Hockey School.

Ronan, a native of South Boston, Massachusetts, finished his collegiate career with 47 points (25 goals, 22 assists) in 132 games played. The forward concluded his playing career in 2011-2012 with the Evansville IceMen of the Central Hockey League.
