Defenseman Tim Boyle is no longer on the Union men's hockey team.
The would-be sophomore has opted to play junior hockey this season with the South Shore Kings of the United States Premier Hockey League.
Boyle, the younger brother of New York Rangers forward Brian Boyle, came to Union with great promise after being drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL draft.
However, his freshman season was a struggle. He appeared in only 15 games, and just one after January. He scored two points (both assists), but racked up 25 penalty minutes and had minus-4 rating.
The Dutchmen still have eight defensemen on the roster. Returnees Mat Bodie, Shayne Gostisbehere, Sebastian Gingras and Charlie Vasaturo are joined by newcomers Jeff Taylor, Noah Henry, Griff Martin and Matt Krug.
The news of Boyle's departure was first reported by Mark Divver of the Providence Journal.
