Simpson signs with South Carolina

Former Union forward Wayne Simpson signed with the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays, the team announced Monday.

Terms were not disclosed.

Simpson, 23, recently competed for a spot with the American Hockey League's Providence Bruins, but he was released from his tryout on September 29.

The Boxborough, Massachusetts native was a four-year standout for the Dutchmen, piling up 115 points (56 goals, 59 assists) in 159 career contests. He led the team with 36 points (16 goals, 20 assists) in 39 games played last season.

The Stingrays are the ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Providence Bruins of the AHL.
