Colgate, which advanced to the final after a 3-2 double overtime win over Quinnipiac on Friday, kept the momentum going early against Union.
The Raiders (20-13-5) outshot the Dutchmen 16-5 in the first period, but Union goalie and Niskayuna native Colin Stevens turned all shots aside and the game remained scoreless.
Union (28-6-4) found its groove in the second, scoring three goals to take control of the game.
Matt Hatch put the Dutchmen on the board at 11:17 after taking a feed from Kevin Sullivan and tucking the puck inside the right post.
Daniel Carr received a pass from Mat Bodie at the top of the right circle and unleashed a rocket to make it 2-0 at 13:51, nine seconds into a high-sticking penalty against Darcy Murphy.
The Dutchmen increased their lead to 3-0 at 15:40 when Daniel Ciampini took a centering pass from Carr and sent the puck past Colgate goaltender Charlie Finn.
After Mike Vecchione made it 4-0 at 7:30 of the third, Colgate received goals from Spiro Goulakos and Murphy to keep the contest interesting. But Max Novak's empty-netter at 17:47 put the game away.
Stevens finished with 31 saves.
Union will likely be the top seed in the NCAA Tournament's East Regional, which starts Friday in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The NCAA Tournament selection show is noon today on ESPNU.
Players honored
Carr was named the Most Outstanding Player of the ECACH tournament. He was also one of five Dutchmen on the ECACH All-Tournament team. He was joined by Vecchione, Bodie, Shayne Gostisbehere and Stevens. The other player on the team was Colgate's Tyson Spink.
