HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac held off a late Union rally to edge the Dutchmen, 4-3, in an ECAC Hockey contest Saturday at High Point Solutions Arena.

With 15th-ranked Quinnipiac leading 4-0, Union mounted a comeback bid with three goals in the latter stages of the third period. Daniel Ciampini put Union on the board at 11:00 after potting his nation-leading 15th goal of the season. JC Brassard made it a 4-2 game at 16:36 after taking a pass from Max Novak and beating Bobcats goalie Michael Garteig with a shot from the point.

Mike Vecchione sliced the Bobcats lead to 4-3 at 18:45, but the Dutchmen (11-8-2, 4-5-1 ECACH) couldn't find the equalizer and saw their winning streak in league play get snapped at four games.

The Bobcats (15-6-1, 10-2-0) grabbed a 2-0 cushion in the first. Travis St. Denis gave Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead 11:26, moments after getting robbed by Union goalie Colin Stevens on a bid from in-close. Tanner MacMaster doubled Quinnipiac's edge after knocking in a loose puck at 15:35.

Quinnipiac extended its lead to 4-0 in the second. After a Noah Henry turnover in front of the Union net, Bo Pieper gathered the puck and blasted it past Stevens at 6:55. St. Denis notched his second goal of the game at 8:51 after beating Stevens on a one-timer from the slot off a feed from Justin Agosta.

The goal chased Stevens from the game. Stevens, who was attempting to set a Division I era program record for career wins, allowed four goals on 19 shots. He gave way to Alex Sakellaropoulos, who denied all 14 shots faced the rest of the way.

The Dutchmen were outshot 33-23, with the 23 shots marking the team's lowest single-game shot output since a 2-1 loss at St. Lawrence last Jan. 31.

Union returns home for the first time since Nov. 15 when it hosts Cornell on Friday in a game slated to be televised on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.

End notes: Ciampini's goal extended his goal-scoring streak to seven games and moved him within three points of 100 for his career... freshman defenseman Connor Light recorded his first NCAA point with an assist on Vecchione's goal.
