CANTON, N.Y. – St. Lawrence breezed to a 7-1 ECAC Hockey win over Union on Saturday at Appleton Arena.
The Saints (16-10-2 overall, 12-4-0 ECACH) received goals from six different players en route to extending their winning streak to seven games.
The loss marked the second time this season that Union (14-12-2, 6-9-1) allowed at least seven goals in a game. The other came in an 8-2 loss to Western Michigan on Nov. 29.
St. Lawrence blew the game open with five goals in the second. Joe Sullivan scored from the slot at 0:43, just over a minute before Alexander Dahl jammed in a rebound to make it 3-0.
Sean McGovern upped St. Lawrence's lead to 5-0 at 11:04, and Nolan Gluchowski's power-play goal made it 6-0 at 17:42.
The Saints kept it coming in the third as Ryan Lough increased St. Lawrence's advantage to 7-0 at 9:50.
Saints goalie Kyle Hayton finished with a game-high 32 saves, but he had his shutout bid ruined when Ryan Scarfo scored with just over a minute left in the game. The tally extended Union's goal-scoring streak to a nation-best 98 games.
Union, which has played 14 of its last 16 games away from home, will return to Messa Rink next weekend to host Yale and Brown.
