Novak inks ATO with Albany Devils

Union senior forward Max Novak signed an amateur tryout agreement with the American Hockey League's Albany Devils, it was announced Friday.

Novak, 23, could make his pro debut as early as Saturday when Albany hosts Norfolk at 5 at the Times Union Center.

The Oak Ridge, New Jersey native had 43 goals and 53 assists and 141 career games with Union. He was fifth on the team in scoring this past season with 10 goals and 18 assists in 35 games.

Known for his ability to come up big in the clutch, Novak had 15 goals (including six game-winners) in 26 career playoff games. He holds the single-season program record for game-winning goals with eight, set during the 2013-14 season.

He is the second Union player to ink a professional contract this week. Senior forward Daniel Ciampini signed with the AHL's Worcester Sharks on Wednesday.

Novak will be reunited with Albany forward Kelly Zajac, who was a senior at Union when Novak was a freshman.

Novak will wear No. 38 for Albany.
