Walker earns USHL All-Academic honors

Union men's hockey recruit Ryan Walker earned All-Academic honors in the U.S Hockey League on Wednesday.

Walker, a forward for the Sioux City Musketeers, had a weighted 4.20 grade-point average (on a 4.00 scale) this year while taking honors courses at Sioux City East High School. His exploits in the classroom earned recognition as a National Honor Society student.

The 18-year-old was a regular for the Musketeers this season, appearing in all 60 regular season games. He put up 34 points on 10 goals and 24 assists. He also competed for the team last August at Junior Club World Cup in Russia, where it captured the bronze medal.

Walker, who is coached by former Union forward Jay Varady, is expected to join the Dutchmen for the 2016-17 season.
