Kinkaid gets first NHL shutout

by Ryan Fay

Former Union goaltender Keith Kinkaid had to be perfect on Sunday.

And he was.
Kinkaid

Kinkaid registered his first career NHL shutout after making 28 saves in the New Jersey Devils 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Kings at the Prudential Center.

Kinkaid, who was named the game's first star, turned aside nine shots in the first period, seven in the second and 12 in the third.

The start was the 23rd of Kinkaid's NHL career. He has a 4-5-1 record with a 2.28 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage in 11 games (10 starts) this season.

Kinkaid is the third former Union goaltender to record a shutout in the NHL, joining Steve Baker and Troy Grosenick. Baker had three shutouts in his NHL career, and Grosenick recorded a shutout in his NHL debut with the San Jose Sharks on Nov. 16, 2014.
