Stevens recalled by AHL's Pirates

The American Hockey League's Portland Pirates recalled former Union goaltender Colin Stevens from the ECHL's Manchester Monarchs on Monday.

The Pirates needed a goalie after their NHL parent club, the Florida Panthers, recalled starting netminder Mike McKenna on an emergency basis earlier in the day.

The move marks Stevens' second stint with the Pirates. He was first called up on Feb. 18 after McKenna left the team to attend the birth of his second child. Stevens was reassigned to Manchester five days later without seeing any action.

It remains to be seen if the Niskayuna native will make his elusive AHL debut this time around. Stevens signed an entry-level deal with the Panthers last March after completing his Union career. He was then assigned to the AHL's San Antonio Rampage, but didn't get any ice time before the season ended.

In 23 games with the Monarchs this season, Stevens is 15-5-1 with a 2.39 goals-against average, a .920 save percentage and two shutouts.
