Jeremy Welsh Makes NHL History

He has only logged one game but Jeremy Welsh has already made NHL history by recording the largest cap hit ever.  For those of you who are not aware of what a cap hit is (myself included prior to some googling), the equation is as follows from CapGeek:

[ ( base salary * days remaining in season / days in season ) + total signing and performance bonuses ] * days in season / days remaining in season

Base: $832,500
Signing bonus: $92,500
Performance bonus: $0
Signed on: April 7, 2012
Days in season: 185
Days remaining: 1

When you throw those numbers in your TI-84, you get $17,945,000.  *pick your jaw up off the ground* Don't expect Jeremy to be rolling up to class in a Rolls Royce made of diamond encrusted diamonds.  This number is more of a technicality than an actual figure. Due to Jeremy's signing bonus and his 1 game stead, the whole equation got thrown off (suck it, math nerds). Jeremy will be getting paid $4,500 a game with his $832,500 a year salary assuming he spends 185 (82 games) in the NHL.  The cap hit describes what Jeremy would make a year had he signed a contract for $97,000 a game.  Here is how Jeremy ranks among other superstars in terms of cap hit:

Not even close, Ovi.
