by Ryan Fay

Tom Carpenito has been named an assistant coach for the women's hockey team.

Carpenito (Elmira)
The 2011 Northeastern graduate fills the vacancy created by Julie Chu, who resigned in March. Carpenito, a four-year club hockey player at Northeastern, comes to Union fresh off two years at Division III Elmira College, where he served as an assistant on the women's varsity hockey team and the head coach on the women's junior varsity hockey team. Elmira captured the 2013 Division III National Championship in March.

“We are excited to have Nick join our staff,” Dutchwomen head coach Claudia Barcomb said in a release. “He brings a great deal of energy and experience to our team and comes from a highly successful Division III program. I look forward to what he is going to add to Union Women's Ice Hockey.”

In Carpenito's two years at Elmira, the Soaring Eagles posted a combined record of 44-10-2, including a 29-5 mark in ECAC West contests. Last season, Elmira had the No. 1 scoring defense in Division III women's hockey, surrendering just 1.10 goals per contest and the second best penalty kill in the country at 92.7%. Elmira also had the nation's No. 4 scoring offense at 4.10 goals per game.

According to the original job posting, Carpenito's position is for one year with the potential for renewal.
