Lundberg participating in elite camp

by Ryan Fay

Dutchwomen goaltender Shenae Lundberg is spending the weekend in Ann Arbor, Michigan as she participates in the sixth annual Warren Strelow National Team Goaltending Camp.

The camp, which features the top netminders eligible for international play in select age groups, is led by former New Hampshire goaltender standout Mike Ayers, currently the USA Hockey Men's National Team goaltending coach. Thirty-six players were invited, 24 men and 12 women.

Focal points include the physical and mental aspects of being a goaltender, fundamentals of the position, and creating a personal identity that leads to in-game success.

Lundberg, a junior in the fall, previously attended the camp as a prep player in 2010 and 2011. This year's appearance marked the first one for a member of the women's hockey team.

"The level of talent both learning and training is exceptional," Lundberg said in a release. "The friends I have made over the years and the things I've learned from them and the staff has helped me to be the netminder that I am. I will take what I learn and will be training and instructing all summer to prepare myself for next season where it is my goal to try and get us to the playoffs."

Lundberg finished this past season with a 2.85 goals against average and a .906 save percentage in 30 contests, but a lackluster offense resulted in a last place finish.

She is one of two current ECAC players in the camp, which began on Thursday and concludes on Sunday. The other is Cornell's Lauren Slebodnick.
