Simpson records 1st pro multi-point game

by Ryan Fay

Former Union forward Wayne Simpson recorded his first multi-point game at the professional level Friday, leading the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays to a 4-0 win at Toledo.

He finished the contest with a goal and an assist.

The 24-year-old assisted on South Carolina's first goal, a Chad Painchaud tally at 17:32 of the first period that gave the Stingrays a 1-0 lead.

Simpson extended South Carolina's edge to 2-0 with a goal at 8:54 of the third period.

He had five shots on goal and a plus-3 rating, both single-game highs at the pro level.

Simpson, who also potted a goal in Wednesday's 7-0 romp over Toledo, has three goals and three assists in 12 games with South Carolina this season.
