Kurio scores first pro goal

by Ryan Fay

Kurio (Union)
Former Union women's hockey forward Rhianna Kurio scored her first professional goal Sunday, but it wasn't enough as the Calgary Inferno took a 5-2 loss against the Montreal Stars in Canadian Women's Hockey League action.

Kurio's tally put the Inferno on the board at 2:43 of the third period, but the Stars pulled away with a pair of goals later in the frame. She was named the game's third star. The goal is her lone point in 11 games.

A 12th round pick of the Inferno in the 2013 CWHL draft, Kurio played for the Dutchwomen from 2009-2013, accumulating 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists) in 136 career games. The 22-year-old is tied with Dania Simmonds for the most games played in program history.
