Bodie has strong pro debut

by Ryan Fay

Former Union defenseman Mat Bodie had a strong professional debut with the American Hockey League's Hartford Wolf Pack on Sunday, picking up two assists in a 4-3 overtime road win over the Syracuse Crunch.

Bodie's first helper set up Chris Mueller's goal at 9:36 of the second period that nodded the game at 2-2. Later, with the Crunch leading 3-2, Bodie assisted on Marek Hrivik's power play tally at 6:35 of the third to bring the Wolf Pack even once again.

Oscar Lindberg won it for the Wolf Pack at 4:53 of overtime.

Bodie, who was at Union's banner ceremony on Friday, was one of the six Wolf Pack starters announced before the game.

Bodie's strong debut came a day after his former Union and Powell River teammate Daniel Carr had a memorable pro debut of his own. Carr had an assist and the game-winning goal for the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs in a 6-4 win over the Rochester Americans.
