Jooris recalled by Calgary Flames

by Ryan Fay

The Calgary Flames announced Thursday that they have recalled former Union forward Josh Jooris from the Adirondack Flames of the American Hockey League.

The move comes on the heels of an impressive training camp for Jooris. He had two goals and an assist in six preseason games and was one of the final players cut from Calgary's camp.

He didn't record a point in either of Adirondack's first two games.

Jooris signed with Calgary as an undrafted free agent in July 2013, a couple months before what would have been his senior season at Union. He had 11 goals and 16 assists in 73 games with the AHL's Abbotsford Heat last year.

Jooris could make his NHL debut Friday at Columbus. If he does, he would be the sixth former Union player to appear in an NHL game, joining goalie Steve Baker (New York Rangers, 1979-83), forward Mario Gaiallonardo (Colorado Rockies, 1979-81), defenseman Duane Joyce (Dallas Stars, 1993-94), goalie Keith Kinkaid (New Jersey Devils, 2012-13) and forward Jeremy Welsh (Carolina Hurricanes, 2012, and Vancouver Canucks, 2013-14).

In a corresponding move, Calgary placed winger David Jones on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 9 with a lower-body injury.
