Vecchione named ECACH Player of the Week

Union sophomore forward Mike Vecchione was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Vecchione scored a shorthanded goal and assisted on Jeff Taylor's game-winning goal in Friday's 7-3 season-opening win over American International. He scored a goal and assisted on Sebastien Gingras' game-winner in Saturday's 3-1 win over New Hampshire.

Vecchione leads the Dutchmen in scoring with four points.

The other award winners were Clarkson's Steve Perry (Goaltender of the Week) and St. Lawrence freshman defenseman Nolan Gluchowski (Rookie of the Week).

Second-ranked Union (2-0) travels to Maine (0-2) Oct. 17-18. Friday's game will be broadcast by Fox College Sports Pacific beginning at 7:30 p.m.
