Stewart decommits from Dutchwomen

by Ryan Fay

Jordan Stewart's career with the Union women's hockey team is over before it had a chance to begin.

Stewart, who committed to Union in January for the 2015-2016 season, has had a change of heart. The promising forward recently decommitted and signed a National Letter of Intent with St. Cloud State for the same season.

"I chose St. Cloud because it is a beautiful campus and has a lot to offer," she said in a release. "I like everything about this school and the ice rink is also amazing! Educationally, SCSU is a highly ranked school. I feel like I will fit in really well at this school and will be very successful"

Another factor may have been a change to St. Cloud State's coaching staff. Before the season, the Huskies added former U.S National Team forward Jinelle Zaugg-Siergiej as an assistant coach.

“She’s a longtime family friend and it’s going to be great to have her as a coach,” Stewart told the Rockford Register Star.

The Dutchwomen still have five recruits for next season: defenseman Arianna Kosakowski, forward Jackie Mota, goalie Leah Patrick, defenseman Sloan Sullivan and forward Jacyn Reeves.

Stewart, 17, currently plays for the Chicago Young Americans U-19 team. She has five goals and five assists in 35 games this season. She's also listed on the roster for the Rockford (IL) Icemen, a boys high school team.
