ECAC Hockey honors Stevens, Foo

by Ryan Fay

Union senior goaltender Colin Stevens and freshman forward Spencer Foo earned ECAC Hockey weekly honors on Tuesday.

Stevens was tabbed Goaltender of the Week for the seventh time in his career, while Foo was named Rookie of the Week for the first time in his career.

Stevens backstopped Union to a two-game sweep of Cornell in the opening round of the ECACH tournament last weekend. He turned aside 57-of-59 shots in the two contests, good for a .966 save percentage. In Saturday's 7-0 series-clinching win, Stevens made 29 saves to record the 11th shutout of his career, moving him into a tie with Kris Mayotte for the most in program history.

Foo notched two goals, including the eventual game-winner, in the series-clincher last Saturday. The performance gave him the team lead in goals by a freshman with 11. It also moved him into second place in scoring among league freshman with 23 points.

Union resumes play this weekend when it travels to 11th-ranked Quinnipiac for a best-of-three ECACH quarterfinal series.
