Stevens, a native of Niskayuna, had been on Florida's radar for awhile. He spent time in the team's development camp last summer, and played 30 minutes of shutout hockey during the camp's only instrasquad scrimmage.
“We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Colin,” said Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon. “He attended our development camp this summer and performed very well. Our scouts have followed Colin’s development closely this season and look forward to his contributions to our organization.”
Stevens was 53-24-6 with a 2.15 goals-against average, a .923 save percentage and 11 shutouts in 90 career games with Union. He ranks first in program history in wins, second in GAA, second in save percentage and tied for first in shutouts.
His best season was 2013-14, when he backstopped the Dutchmen to their first national title. Stevens was named ECAC Hockey's Goaltender of the Year and earned East All-America Second Team honors.
In 31 games this past season, Stevens had a 16-15 record, a 2.31 GAA, a .920 save percentage and two shutouts.
The 21-year-old is the third Union senior to turn pro this week, joining forwards Daniel Ciampini and Max Novak. Ciampini signed with the AHL's Worcester Sharks on Wednesday. Novak joined the AHL's Albany Devils earlier Friday.
