Kinkaid will receive $700,000 next season and $750,000 in 2016-17. The 25-year-old was set to become a Group 6 unrestricted free agent this summer.
After starting the season with the American Hockey League's Albany Devils, Kinkaid was promoted to New Jersey for good on December 9. Serving as Cory Schenider's backup, he went 6-5-1 with a 2.59 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage in 19 games the rest of the way.
"He’s proven he can play at this level, play in a backup role, play no matter how many games he had to sit out,” said Devils President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello. “He’s under contract now for two more years, and he knows he has to grow a little and accepts that. He’s a tremendous complement, in my opinion, to Cory.”
Kinkaid played for Union from 2009-11 and backstopped the Dutchmen to their first Cleary Cup in 2010-11. He gave up his final two years of eligibility when he signed with New Jersey in April 2011.
