Di Pauli named Barry Goldwater Scholar

Union junior forward Theo Di Pauli von Treuheim has been named a 2015 Barry Goldwater Scholar, the team announced Wednesday.

The Downers Grove, Ill., native was one of a dozen recipients from Illinois honored with the scholarship. A total of 260 Scholars were picked on the basis of academic merit from a field of 1,206 applicants nominated by the faculties of colleges and universities nationwide.

The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was established by Congress in 1986 to honor Senator Barry Goldwater, who served his country for 56 years as a soldier and statesman, including three decades of service in the U.S. Senate.

A bioengineering major, DiPauli von Treuheim has a 3.96 overall grade-point average. His career aspirations include a Ph.D. in bioengineering. He would like to do research in the Bionics industry, investigating ways to strategize research proposals that further products and goals.

"I feel honored to be recognized for this scholarship," said Di Pauli von Treuheim. "I am very grateful for the efforts of Lynn Evans (Union's Director of National Fellowships and Scholarships) in assisting with this process. I'm very excited about the opportunity this scholarship will provide."

"This a tremendous honor for Theo, he has shown tremendous dedication and hard work in the classroom," said Union coach Rick Bennett. "Theo is constantly striving to be the best in his field and has great interest in engineering. We are very proud that he was selected for such a prestigious scholarship."
