Seven Dutchmen honored at annual banquet

Seven members of the Union men's hockey team were honored at the team's annual postseason awards banquet Thursday at The Edison Club in Rexford.

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
WINNER: Senior forward Daniel Ciampini
Ciampini

The All-ECAC Hockey first teamer paced the Dutchmen in goals (26), shots (126), plus/minus (+21), power play goals (9) and game-winning goals (5). He co-owned the team lead in scoring with sophomore center Mike Vecchione, matching a school record with 50 points.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
WINNER: Freshman forward Spencer Foo

Foo led Union freshmen in scoring with 25 points on 11 goals and 14 assists. His strong season earned him a spot on the ECACH All-Rookie team last month.

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER
WINNER: Junior forward Matt Wilkins

Wilkins set career bests in goals (13), assists (15) and points (28) this season. He finished third on the team in goals and fourth in points.

COACHES AWARD
WINNER: Senior defenseman Charlie Vasaturo

Vasaturo served as team captain and blocked a team-high 62 shots.

SCOTT RICHARDSON UNSUNG HERO AWARD
WINNER: Senior forward Sam Coatta

Coatta, an alternate captain this season, saw extensive time on the penalty kill and was one of the team's best defensive forwards.

CHARLES MORRISON AWARD 
(Player who participates in extracurricular activities while demonstrating academic interest and achievement)
WINNER: Junior defenseman Sebastien Gingras

Gingras is a neuroscience major with an overall 3.89 GPA. Outside of the classroom, he served as a student advocate for the "It's On Us" public service campaign and worked as a resident hall advisor on campus.

THOMAS VAN ARDEN DUKEHART AWARD 
(Player with the highest GPA on the team)
WINNER: Junior forward Theo DiPauli von Treuheim

A bioengeering major with an overall 3.96 GPA, DiPauli von Treuheim snagged the award for the third straight season. He was recently named a Barry Goldwater scholar.
