Chris Cobb has been named an assistant coach for the Union women's hockey team, head coach Claudia Barcomb announced Monday.

He replaces Liz Keady, who joined Harvard as an assistant coach.

Cobb spent the past three seasons as the assistant coach at Williams College, where he helped guide the Ephs to the 2013-14 NESCAC championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division III Elite Eight.

Prior to Williams, the Swanton, Vermont native spent five years as the head coach at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and also served as an assistant coach at Amherst College for three seasons.

Cobb's teams at UMass-Amherst collected three ECWHL championship game appearances, two ACHA Final Four berths and one ECWHL championship. While he was on the staff at Amherst College, the program captured the 2010 NESCAC and the Division III national championship.

"I want to thank coach Barcomb, coach Ali Boe, and the Union College athletic department for the opportunity to become part of the Union women's hockey program," said Cobb, whose experience also includes time as the assistant coach of the ACHA women's national team. "After meeting the players and feeling the passion and commitment they have for reaching their goals, I knew Union was where I wanted to take the next step in my coaching career. I can't wait to get on campus and start working as a staff towards preparing for the upcoming season and building towards the future."

"Chris will add a great deal to our program," Barcomb added. "He has worked tirelessly at Williams for the last three years and has improved their team tremendously. We look forward to adding him to our staff and watching the impact he will make on our program."

Cobb will make his debut on the Dutchwomen bench on Sept. 25 when Union opens the season at Minnesota State-Mankato.
