The win pushed the Dutchmen's unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1) and it was their first in a Friday contest this season. The Dutchmen had been winless in seven Friday games, going 0-3-4.

Vidmar's heroics prevented that drought from reaching eight. After Mike Vecchione won a faceoff in the UMass zone with 13 seconds left in the extra session, Vidmar collected the loose puck, drove to the net, and jammed home a backhander to secure the win.

The Minutemen forced overtime after erasing a 3-1 deficit entering the third period. Ray Pigozzi's second goal of the game cut Union's lead to 3-2 at 5:12, just under three minutes before Shane Walsh tied the game at 3-3.

Pigozzi's first tally gave the Minutemen a 1-0 lead just 49 seconds into the game on a breakaway goal. The goal marked the second time in three games that the Dutchmen allowed a goal in the first minute.

Spencer Foo, the reigning ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, responded for Union at 13:32. He took a feed from Ryan Scarfo before driving to the net and lifting a shot past Minutemen goalie Nic Renyard.

Scarfo gave Union a 2-1 lead at 18:08 after burying his team-best ninth of the season following a series of nifty passes between Matt Wilkins and Brett Supinski.

Vecchione put the Dutchmen ahead 3-1 in the latter stages of the second after putting in his own rebound.

Union finished 5-for-5 on the penalty kill, including a five minute major for checking from behind assessed to Noah Henry, who was ejected with just over four minutes left in the third.

Alex Sakellaropoulos finished with 22 saves for the Dutchmen, who improved to 15-2-2 in their last 19 contests against Hockey East foes.

Union will look to continue its success against Hockey East opponents when it hosts Vermont next Sunday at 4.
