The Kingston Voyageurs of the Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Sunday that forward Zachary Emelifeonwu committed to Union for the 2017-18 season.

The 19-year-old is in his third season with the Voyageurs. The Kingston, Ontario native has 21 goals and 37 assists in 124 career games, including 12 goals and 17 assists in 43 contests this year. Emelifeonwu was named team captain earlier this season.

"[He's a] mature, educated young man who I've trained for a few years," Voyageurs assistant coach Phil Mangan said in an e-mail. "[His] work ethic on and off the ice stands alone, and [he] is a pleasure coming to the rink everyday. He can throw bone-crushing hits, and not many players can catch him at full speed. The north-south college game will suit him well."

Emelifeonwu, who's listed at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, is the second member of the Voyageurs to commit to Union this season. Forward Anthony Rinaldi, the team's top scorer and alternate captain, announced in December that he committed for 2016-17.
