- In a piece of news that we unknowingly glossed over yesterday, the inimitable Ken Schott at the Daily Gazette reports that sophomore defenseman Mike Ingoldsby will miss at least the first term of school, according to head coach Rick Bennett. Ingoldsby, who projects to be a key cog in the program's future, is suffering from post-concussion syndrome stemming from an concussion he recieved last year against RPI. Not only has Ingoldsby been kept off the ice, but he has been unable to attend classes. Ken has a great video over at his blog. Here's hoping that Ingoldsby's symptoms subside quickly. Concussions are fickle injuries; moreover, they are scary injuries.
- Potentially big news from "1989 And Still Waiting:" it appears as if Union could lose a big division rival as early as next year. With the addition of Notre Dame to Hockey East, that division may look to the ECAC for a 12th member. Rumored to be interested in switching divisions? RPI. Union fans are collectively holding their breath: replacing such a good enemy would not be easy. Could Union possibly...gulp...lobby for RPI?
- Ken also reports that Union has a new recruit on defense for 2012-2013: SebImage via Wikipediaastien Gingras. Gingras is entering his third season playing for the Brockville Braves (Ontario) of the CHL. The 20-year old Quebecois defenseman's best season came in 2009-2010, where he notched an impressive 55 points in only 56 games--an Orr-like performance. Click here for Gingras' career statistics from HockeyDB.
- Here is video of Gingras, who is incredibly candid in an interview from February:
- Former Union goaltender Corey Milan remains on a tryout with the AHL's Binghamton Senators after the team trimmed its roster. With the demotion of Brian Stewart to the ECHL--another goalie in the B-Sens camp--Milan is now one of three goaltenders on the defending Calder Cup champions' roster. He served as a backup in Binghamton's last preseason game against the Hershey Bears on Monday. Also of note: former Clarkson defenseman Mark Borowiecki also represents the ECAC on the Senators' roster.
- Dredging up another poll from the murky depths of the ocean of preseason predictions: here is Hockey Hourly's prediction for Union this year.
- Finally, a shameless plug for our friend Ken, whose radio spot will be back on the air Thursday at 11:00 on 980 AM
- Late Edition Edit: Our Union Hockey Tweet of the Day goes to Sam Coatta, at Tyson Fulton's expense.
