- The Times Union has a nice feature from Media Day yesterday with some candid quotes from Coach Bennett and from Sophomore netminder Troy Grosenick. Evan and I were at Media Day--more on this later--and saw a photographer at the far end of the ice taking pictures of Troy in the crease. We now know that it yielded this result (which looks uncomfortable for anyone but a goaltender):
- Grosenick also starred in the best of this week's tweets over on the fantastic ECAC blog, "1989 And Still Waiting." If you haven't been there yet, go. Bookmark it. We'll wait. Enjoy Union's budding comedian, who, by the way, looks to winthe starting job in net. He might have competition in the form of Mike Ingoldsby, however.
- Dan also provides big news for the Twitterverse: Troy's handle has changed from the now defunct @goaler27 to @TGrose1.
- Moving away from this Grosenick-centered edition of Dutchmen Details, and into arguably the biggest news of the day(!) the annual ECAC poll was released. Union is ranked second behind Yale in both the coach's poll and the media poll. Union recieved 11 first place votes in the former and 2 in the latter. No Union players were named to the ECAC Media All-Conference Team or the ECAC Coaches All-Conference Team.
- None of this should be worrisome to Union fans--last year's team was predicted to finish third in the ECAC. As Dan Carr told us yesterday at media day, putting too much stock into polls can be dangerous, especially in a division as historically volatile as the ECAC. (If, though, you want to see UHB's predictions, check out our preseason predictions. Just promise us you won't hold it against us in the future...)
- Finally, Pete Dougherty has some news about how to listen to this year's installment of "Union College Hockey Coach's Corner," with brand new star Rick Bennett. The shows will be broadcast from Bomber's on State Street at 6:00 pm on Wednesdays.
