Laughlin joins Dutchwomen as a walk-on

by Ryan Fay

Forward Katie Laughlin was added to the Union women's hockey team as a walk-on freshman earlier this week.

Laughlin
Laughlin played for Lawrence Academy last season and served as one of the Spartans' four captains. The 18-year-old was the team's second-highest scorer with 13 goals and 12 assists in 24 games. She was named to the All-League team in the Independent School League.

At 5-foot-9, Laughlin is the tallest player on Union's roster, and she's the tallest forward Union has had since the 2007-2008 season.

Laughlin will wear No. 19 for Union. Junior forward Rebecca Babiak, who donned that number last season, is now wearing No. 13.

Union opens its 2014-2015 slate today with a home exhibition game against the Ottawa Jr. Senators at 4 p.m.
