John Ronan, who served as volunteer assistant coach on last season's national champion Union hockey team, has been named assistant coach for the U.S Hockey League's Youngstown Phantoms.

“I’m honored and excited to join the Youngstown Phantoms,” said Ronan. “This is a first-class organization from the top down, and this is an incredible opportunity to work in the best junior league in the country. My family and I are excited to be a part of this great community here in the Mahoning Valley.”

Ronan will be the Phantoms' second assistant coach, joining veteran assistant coach Brad Patterson and head coach/general manager Anthony Noreen on the team's staff.

“John brings the type of character and integrity we look for in our staff members,” said Noreen. “He has a great passion for the game of hockey, and knowledge that will be an asset to our players and program. We are very fortunate to have a person of John’s caliber joining us here in Youngstown.”

Aaron Bogosian, a former St. Lawrence standout, was named Ronan's successor at Union on Aug. 31.
