The goal was Gostisbehere's first in a Flyers uniform.
"It was a great setup from (Andrew MacDonald) to (Akeson) to me," Gostisbehere told the Courier-Post. "I was just focusing more on not getting my shot blocked. Thankfully, it went upstairs."
Gostisbehere was paired on defense with Samuel Morin, the Flyers' top pick in the 2013 draft.
"I thought they were really good and complemented each other,” Flyers head coach Craig Berube told Philly.com. “Both had really good gaps and they were aggressive and really moved the puck well. And I thought they both defended well.”
Gostisbehere ended up seeing 16:42 of ice time, including 2:13 on the power play. He finished with the goal and a plus-1 rating and was named the game's third star.
The Flyers travel to New Jersey for a rematch with the Devils at 7 p.m. Sunday.
