Defenseman Martin leaves Dutchmen

by Ryan Fay

The Union men's hockey team has lost another player.

Martin
Defenseman Griffyn Martin, who would have been a sophomore this season, has left the team and is no longer enrolled at Union. His name has been removed from the Dutchmen roster on the Union athletics website.

Martin came to Union after a decorated prep career at Avon Old Farms. He appeared in only two games last season, Oct. 25 at Connecticut and Feb. 1 at Clarkson. He didn't record a point. The 20-year-old was seen as having the potential to develop into a steady defensive defenseman.

Union head coach Rick Bennett declined to comment on Martin's departure.

It came out last Tuesday that forward Alex Gonye also left the team. Gonye would have been a sophomore this season.
