The goal, Ciampini's team-best 11th of the season, snapped a 1-1 tie. Ciampini weaved through three Pioneers in the Sacred Heart zone and beat goalie Andrew Bodnarchuk. Ryan Scarfo assisted on the play and then punctuated the win in the closing seconds with an empty-netter, his second tally of the game.

Scarfo's first goal opened the scoring at 9:00 of the first period. He took a pass from Charlie Vasaturo, skated into the Pioneers zone, and blasted a shot over the shoulder of Bodnarchuk and into the top corner of the net.

The Pioneers (5-11-2) notched their only goal just under two minutes later after Zach Luczyk finished a two-on-one rush with Zach Sabatini and fired the puck past Union goalie Alex Sakellaropoulos.

Sakellaropoulos, who got the starting nod over Colin Stevens, won his second straight decision and finished with 21 saves. Bodnarchuk piled up 28 stops for the Pioneers.

Union (10-7-1) returns to action on Jan. 3 with a trip to top-ranked Boston University. The game will broadcast on NBC Sports Network (U.S) and TSN2 (Canada).

All-Tournament Team

Union forward Mike Vecchione and teammate Scarfo were named to the Frozen Holiday Classic's All-Tournament team. Vecchione had a goal and an assist in the two-day tournament, while Scarfo collected two goals and an assist.

The Dutchmen lost to Connecitcut, 3-2, in the opening round game on Friday.
