HANOVER, N.H. -- History has a way of repeating itself.
For Union, it was the wrong kind of history Saturday at Dartmouth. The Big Green rallied from a 2-1 deficit after two periods and skated away with a 3-2 ECAC Hockey win at Thompson Arena.
It was reminiscent of the only previous matchup between the teams this season. The Big Green (9-8-4 overall, 6-6-2 ECACH) rallied from a 3-1 hole after two periods on Nov. 7 at Messa Rink and went home with a 4-3 overtime victory.
Carl Hesler provided the dagger this time around. The freshman snapped a 2-2 tie when he notched his first collegiate goal at 18:33 of the third. The goal was set-up by linemate Corey Kalk, who provided the game-tying goal just under 11 minutes earlier.
Union (13-11-2, 5-8-1) took a 2-1 lead after Spencer Foo tallied a power-play goal at 17:14 of the second. The goal was his first in his last 10 contests.
Despite getting outshot 20-8 in the opening period, Union grabbed the game's first lead. Max Novak's unassisted goal gave the Dutchmen a 1-0 advantage at 9:33 of the first. The tally snapped a streak of eight games without a goal for Novak.
Dartmouth tied the game at 1-1 6:20 later on a goal from Brad Schierhorn.
Colin Stevens made a season-high 38 saves for Union, which ended up getting outshot 41-22. Charles Grant turned aside 20 shots for Dartmouth, including a point-blank save on Roman Ammirato with 13 minutes left in the third that kept the game within reach for the Big Green.
The Dutchmen return to action on Friday at Clarkson.
End notes: Charlie Vasaturo appeared in his 100th game for Union... the loss dropped the Dutchmen to 2-8 in one-goal games this season.... Dartmouth registered its first season sweep of Union since the 1999-2000 season.
