Ryan Burton, a forward for the British Columbia Hockey League's Cowichan Capitals, committed to the Union College men's hockey team on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old is expected to arrive for the 2016-17 season.

"Proud to announce that I have committed to play Division 1 hockey at Union College!" Burton tweeted. "Huge thanks to everyone that have supported me."

Burton, a native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, had seven goals and 20 assists in 56 games with the Capitals this season. He was especially productive as the season went along with 19 points over the final 22 games.

"Ryan has elite level speed and acceleration, is very good on draws and made some highlight reel plays as his confidence grew in the second half of the year," said Capitals general manager and head coach Bob Beatty.

Burton, who checks in at 6-foot and 180-pounds, will play a second season with the Capitals next year ahead of his arrival at Union.

"We expect Ryan to have an exceptional season before moving on to futher his career and education with an elite school and hockey program at Union College," Beatty added.

Burton's commitment is the fourth secured by the Dutchmen this offseason. The other three are defenseman Ben Estes (2017-18), forward Justin Cmunt (2017-18) and defenseman Ben Pirko (2018-19).
