Two former Union men's hockey standouts will be in Florida Panthers prospect development camp, it was announced Sunday.
Simpson (l) and Stevens (r) |
Simpson, who played for Union from 2009-13, is in the camp as a free agent invitee. He spent last season with the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays, where he had 16 goals and 39 assists in 65 regular season games. He took his game to another level in the playoffs, setting a league record for the most points in a single postseason with 38. At 25-years-old, Simpson is the oldest player in the camp.
Stevens, who tended goal for Union from 2011-15, is in Panthers development camp for a second straight year. The Niskayuna native went 16-15 with a 2.31 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage in 31 games with the Dutchmen last season. He signed an entry-level contract with the Panthers in March.
