by Ryan Fay

Former Union star Daniel Carr is getting his first chance in the NHL.

The Montreal Canadiens recalled the forward from their American Hockey League affiliate, the St. John's IceCaps, on Sunday.

Carr will be at Canadiens practice today, and he could make his NHL debut as early as Tuesday when Montreal hosts Columbus.

The second-year pro was off to a solid start with the IceCaps. He's fourth on the team in scoring with eight goals and nine assists in 21 games.

Carr spent last season with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Montreal's former AHL affiliate. He had a team-leading 24 goals plus 15 assists in 76 contests.

The 24-year-old will join goaltender Keith Kinkaid (New Jersey), forward Josh Jooris (Calgary) and defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere (Philadelphia) as former Union players currently on active NHL rosters.

Carr starred for Union from 2010-14 and remains the program's Division I era leader in career in goals (78) and points (157). He signed with the Canadiens as an undrafted free agent after leading the Dutchmen to the 2014 national championship.
