Former Union defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere is back in the NHL.

He is expected to take the roster spot of defenseman Mark Sterit, who will have groin surgery on Tuesday and miss six weeks.
Gostisbehere was off to a solid start in his second professional season. In 14 games with the Phantoms, he had two goals and eight assists. He ranked fifth among AHL defenseman in scoring.
Gostisbehere missed most of last season with a torn ACL in his right knee. Prior to the injury, he had five assists in five contests with the Phantoms and no points in two with the Flyers.
The Flyers drafted Gostisbehere in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and signed him days after he led Union to the 2014 NCAA championship.
Philadelphia plays at Carolina tonight.
