Pirates ink Simpson for rest of season

The American Hockey League's Portland Pirates signed former Union standout Wayne Simpson to a one-year AHL deal for the remainder of the season on Friday.

Simpson originally joined the Pirates on a professional tryout agreement during training camp.

Simpson, who played for Union from 2009-13, has appeared in all 10 games for the Pirates this season. He leads the team in assists with eight, and is second in scoring with eight points.
