Philadelphia Flyers fans went home happy Monday, thanks to former Union defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere.
He scored a game-winning power play goal 24 seconds into overtime to give the Flyers a 3-2 win over Carolina. Gostisbehere was in the slot when he got a feed from Claude Giroux. He one-timed it off the crossbar and past Hurricanes goalie Eddie Lack for his first career game-winner.
"I'm still pinching myself a little bit to get such a big goal," Gostisbehere told reporters after the game.
He was honored as the game's first star.
Since getting recalled from the American Hockey League's Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Nov. 14, the 22-year-old has two goals and an assist in five games.
