2014-15 Dutchwomen schedule announced

by Ryan Fay

The 2014-2015 Union women's hockey schedule has been released.

The Dutchwomen will play 34 regular season games, plus a home exhibition contest against the Ottawa Junior Senators on Sept. 27 that will kick off the season. The regular season slate features 17 home dates and 12 games against seven out-of-conference opponents.

The Dutchwomen open their regular season with two games at defending CHA champion RIT on Oct. 3-4. The games will be the first regular season games played in RIT's new 4,200-seat Gene Polisseni Center.

Union starts the home portion of its regular season slate with two games against UConn on Oct. 10-11.

Union remains home the following weekend for two games against Penn State on Oct. 17-18. An eight-game road trip starts with a pair of contests at Vermont on Oct. 24-25.

The Dutchwomen play their first ECAC Hockey game of the season on Oct. 31 at Dartmouth.

Union's November slate includes just four games -- at Harvard (Nov. 1), at Providence (Nov. 7), at Princeton (Nov. 14) and at Quinnipiac (Nov. 15).

After a couple weeks off, the Dutchwomen return to action on Dec. 2, when they travel to Northeastern. The game will feature some added intrigue, as assistant coach Nick Carpenito left Union on Thursday to take the same position at Northeastern, his alma mater.

The Dutchwomen return home on Dec. 5-6, when they open the home portion of their ECACH slate with games against Yale and Brown. The contests are the first two in a string of eight straight home games.

Union's out-of-conference slate finishes with two home games against Maine on Dec. 12-13, the last games before a three-week break over the holidays.

The Dutchwomen resume play on Jan. 2 with a matchup against visiting Quinnipiac, the first of 16 consecutive ECACH games to finish the regular season.

Union's January slate continues with a home games against Princeton (Jan. 3), Harvard (Jan. 9) and Dartmouth (Jan. 10). The Dutchwomen travel to the North Country the following weekend to take on defending national champion Clarkson (Jan. 16) and St. Lawrence (Jan. 17).

The annual home-and-home series with Route 7 rival RPI takes place on Jan. 23-24. The Dutchwomen host the Engineers on Jan. 23 prior to a trip to Troy the following day.

Union closes out January with a roadie to central New York to battle Cornell (Jan. 30) and Colgate (Jan. 31).

The Dutchwomen open February with home tilts against St. Lawrence (Feb. 6) and Clarkson (Feb. 7). A trek to southern New England follows the next weekend with contests at Brown (Feb. 13) and Yale (Feb. 14).

The regular season concludes with home games against Colgate (Feb. 20) and Cornell (Feb. 21). The contest versus Cornell will be Union's annual senior day.
